A Wireless LAN (Wireless Local Area Network) is formed when a wireless network interface card connects to your local Access Point (AP), creating a WLAN. You can then connect this WLAN to your ADSL uplink, or other networks, and use mobile connectivity resources to access the Web from anywhere, without having to worry about wires.

WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)
(1) constructed using a Wireless Access Point and a Wi-Fi NIC or laptop PCMCIA wireless card or PDA with Wi-Fi capability
(2) can also be created using a 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Science, Medical) public frequency
(3) most WLANs are connected to the internet using broadband access such as ADSL
(4) can use IEEE 802.11b technology (11 Mbps)

ChungHwa Telecom, aside from providing corporate and residential services, also provides WLAN services. In public locations, or in residential buildings, ChungHwa Telecom provides equipment that can be used to link your ADSL connection and internet account to your Wi-Fi standard wireless card for mobile access. No cables are required and you can have multiple computers connected and sharing your ADSL line.

Customers with HiNet customer accounts can access the internet at these locations to browse the web, download files using FTP, or to check their e-mail. If you have a laptop with a Wi-Fi card or a PDA with Wi-Fi compatibility, you can use your HiNet Point Consuming Card or your CHTC Cell Phone number to access the internet. No application is required! The cost is a very reasonable 1NT/minute for high-speed internet access (up to 11Mbps).
