  After applying for HiNet ADSL, ChungHwa Telecome will provide you with an ATU-R and Splitter, and will install the hardware for you.
   
 
SplitterĄG
Splits your telephone line frequencies to allow for ADSL use
LINE- Cable used to connect your ADSL connection
MODEM-- Uses a RJ-11 to connect your Splitter to the ATU-R
PHONE-- For making normal voice calls (also used to go online with ADSL)

2-1ATU-R light status information
  After you have prepared your hardware and software, make sure that your computer, the ATU-R and your network card are properly connected. Also, please check to make sure that your ATU-R lights are correctly lit up, according to the following chart.
   
  CISCO model ATU-R (left to right)ĄG
   
 
[WAN - ACT]ĄG
This light blinks when external cable is connected and data is being transmitted
[WAN - LNK]ĄG
This light will turn on if external cable is connected and data connection is established.
[LAN - ACT]ĄG
This light blinks when internal cable is connected and data is being transmitted.
[LAN - LNK]ĄG
This light will turn on if internal cable is connected to your network card and data connection is established.
[ALARM]ĄG
This light will blink or turn on if there is a malfunction of your ATU-R.
[POWER]ĄG
This light will turn on when ADSL Modem is powered on.
   
  ZyXel
   
  Light status from left to rightĄG
 
[POWER]ĄG
This light will turn on when ADSL Modem is powered on.
[SYS]ĄG
System Status - if light does not turn on when Modem is powered on, there is a problem with your Modem.
[LAN]ĄG
If this light is on and blinking, you have connected successfully to your network card and are transmitting data.
[ADSL]ĄG
If this light is on and blinking, you have connected successfully to your ADSL line are transmitting data.
   
  TECOM and ARESCOM
   
  Light status from left to rightĄG
 
[POWER]ĄG
This light will turn on when ADSL modem is powered on.
[DIAG]ĄG
Diagnostic status - if this light stays on, you have a problem with your Modem.
[WAN - ACT]ĄG
This light blinks when external cable is connected and data is being transmitted.
[WAN - LNK]ĄG
This light will turn on if external cable is connected and data connection is established.
[LAN - ACT]ĄG This light blinks when internal cable is connected and data is being transmitted.
[LAN - LNK]ĄG This light will turn on if internal cable is connected to your network card and data connection is established.
   
   
  COMTREND
   
  Light status from left to rightĄG
   
 
[POWER]ĄG
This light will turn on when ADSL Modem is powered on.
[ALERT] ĄG If this light stays on continually, you have a problem with your ADSL Modem.
[LAN] ĄG If this light is on, you have connected successfully to your network card.
[ADSL TX & RX] ĄG If this light is blinking, you are transmitting data through your ADSL line.
[ADSL LINK] ĄG If this light is on, you have connected successfully through your ADSL line.
   
  ACER
   
  Light status from left to rightĄG
   
 
[POWER]ĄG
This light will turn on when ADSL Modem is powered on.
[WAN LINK] ĄG If this light is on, you have connected successfully through your ADSL line.
[WAN TX/RX] ĄG If this light is blinking, you are transmitting data through your ADSL line.
[ALARM] If this light turns on, you have a problem with your ADSL Modem.
[LAN LINK] ĄG If this light turns on, you have successfully connected to your network card.
[LAN TX/RX] ĄG If this light is blinking, you are transmitting data to your network card.
   
2-2Your network card
  If you are using ADSL, you will need a 10M or 100M Network card. You will also need a RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your ADSL modem to your Network card.
   
2-3Connect your cables
   
  Using the CISCO ATU-R as an example:
   
 
1. Before you have connected to ADSL, your equipment will look like this. Please disconnect your telephone and telephone line in preparation for installation.
2. Place your telephone line into the splitter where indicated. Then plug your ATU-R into the filter as well. The status light on your ATU-R signifying an external connection should turn on.
3. Connect the RJ-11 cable to the Splitter and Modem and one end, and the ATU-R and wall at the other end.
4. Take your RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable and connect one end to the ATU-R (the ENET port) and the other end into your network card.
5. Connect your telephone and telephone line into the wall jack.
6.
If your telephone, splitter, and ATU-R are connected correctly, you should be finished. Congratulations!
Using the Alcatel ATU- R as an example:
1. Disconnect your telephone line and connect it to the Splitter.
2. Connect your voice telephone to your telephone line through the Splitter.
3. Connect your ADSL Modem to the Splitter.
4. Connect your network card to your ADSL Modem using an RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable.
5. Turn on the power to your ADSL Modem. ThatĄŠs it!
 
Using the ZyXel ATU-R as an example:
1. Disconnect your telephone line and connect it to the Splitter.
2. Connect your voice telephone to your telephone line through the Splitter.
3. Connect your ADSL Modem to the Splitter.
4. Connect your ADSL Modem with the AC Adapter for power.
5. Use a RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your ADSL Modem and your network card.
 
Using the TECOM or ARESCOM ATU-R as an example:
1. Disconnect your telephone line and connect it to the Splitter.
2. Connect your voice telephone to your telephone line through the Splitter.
3. Connect your ADSL Modem to the Splitter.
4. Connect your ADSL Modem with the AC Adapter for power.
5. Use a RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your ADSL Modem and your network card.
 
Using the COMTREND ATU-R as an example:
1. Disconnect your telephone line and connect it to the Splitter.
2. Connect your voice telephone to your telephone line through the Splitter.
3. Connect your ADSL Modem to the Splitter using a telephone cable.
4. Use a RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your ADSL Modem and your network card.
5. Connect your ADSL Modem with the AC Adapter for power.
 
Using the ACER ATU-R as an example:
1. Disconnect your telephone line and connect it to the Splitter.
2. Connect your voice telephone to your telephone line through the Splitter.
3. Use a RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your ADSL Modem and your network card.
4. Connect your ADSL Modem to the Splitter using a telephone cable.
5. Connect your ADSL Modem with the AC Adapter for power.
